About Garish K. Alexander, MD
Gary Alexander, MD, has been on staff at the Methodist Mansfield Medical Center since he began practicing as a minimally invasive general surgeon in 2007. During his tenure, he has served as the surgery department chair and as the trauma medical director at the hospital, as well as, spearheading the foundation of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center’s robotics program and its accreditation as a level III trauma center. In addition to his practice and leadership roles with Methodist, Dr. Alexander has also served on the teaching staff of John Peter Smith Health System for 10 years.
Dr. Alexander graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas in 1998, and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2002. He completed his training at the Methodist Houston general surgery residency program, where he was chief resident 2007. Dr. Alexander is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a Certified Physician Executive as accredited by the American Association for Physician Leadership.
Dr. Alexander specializes in surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, including heartburn/reflux surgery, gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, and colon surgery. He performs upper and lower endoscopy including colonoscopy for diagnostics and cancer screening. He also performs skin and soft tissue surgery, as well.
Dr. Alexander is passionate about presenting his patients with the least invasive options possible. It is his highest priority to ensure patients are well versed in their treatment plan, receive only the highest-quality procedures, experience minimal pain during treatment, and undergo the shortest recovery time possible. He is trained to use the da Vinci® robotic surgical system and has performed over 600 robotic procedures since 2012. He is also a certified proctor for the da Vinci® robotic surgery system.
In addition to his clinical pursuits, Dr. Alexander also has a heart for the City of Mansfield where he and his family reside, and he is personally invested in helping the community continue to grow. In his spare time, Dr. Alexander is an avid local sports fan and enjoys traveling when he can.
