About Edward M. Mairura, MD
Dr. Mairura is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Mairura was born in Kenya and moved to Minnesota where he completed High School. His undergraduate education was at the University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities campus where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2007. He then attended the University of Minnesota School of Medicine completing in 2011.
While in Medical school, he served as the vice president of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), was involved as an Alan Page Scholar, which allowed him to serve underprivileged young adults. His desire to pursue orthopaedics was influenced by the passing away of his uncle while he was in medical school. Following Medical School he was accepted into the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota, completing in 2016.
After residency, he moved to the Mansfield/ Dallas area in the summer of 2016, to join his family and joined Texas Orthopaedic Surgical Associates which is now Methodist Orthopaedic Surgical Associates. Dr. Mairura is a fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), a member of the Texas Medical Association and Dallas County Medical Society. His special areas of interest include anterior total hip replacements. Dr. Mairura also specializes in total knee replacements. Dr. Mairura is also a pioneer in outpatient total hip and knee replacements within the Methodist Health System, having helped launch these procedures at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center and Methodist Mansfield Ambulatory Surgery Center. Dr. Mairura also has expertise in orthopaedic trauma and geriatric trauma, and was actively involved in optimizing the hip fracture protocols at the Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. His other orthopaedic surgical interests include general orthopaedics in areas of arthroscopic treatment of the knee, as well as hand and upper extremity.
During his career, he has been recognized for his early research and dedication to patients. He is a recipient of the 2016 Gustillo resident research award for the best effort at the University of Minnesota Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Mairura was recently honored as one of two nominees by the Methodist Health System to represent Methodist Midlothian Medical Center as physician of the year in 2025. He was one of 35 doctors in the Dallas Fort Worth nominated for this prestigious award by Dallas Fort Worth Health Council and Foundation to represent his health system for his work in improving orthopaedic service delivery at Methodist Midlothian Hospital, outstanding patient care as assessed by the press Ganey scores, patient reviews within the health system and for his philanthropic efforts in medicine. Locally, he has been recognized as Living Magazine Top doc in Mansfield-Arlington 8 years in a row, 2018-2025. He serves on different key committees within the Methodist Health System aimed at improving orthopaedic care delivery to patients.
Dr. Mairura enjoys spending time with his wife, the love of his life Selina and their two children Sienna and Ethan. Together they travel, bike, run, watch sports, spend time with
family and friends. They are also devoted to serving God and are actively involved in their local church in Arlington, Texas.
Dr. Mairura also devotes his personal time running his family non-profit organization The Mairura Family Foundation which provides mentorship to aspiring future health care providers. The foundation also is involved in international medical mission trips that features providing full orthopaedic surgical and non-surgical treatments to underserved communities in Kenya, having performed to date, 2 such medical mission trips with a team of 20 doctors, nurses and other allied health care providers in the DFW area in 2024 and 2025.
