About Dhiresh R. Jeyarajah, MD
Dr. Rohan Jeyarajah, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon. He specializes in gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery, which includes the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile duct. Located at Methodist Richardson Medical Center, Dr. Jeyarajah has been practicing in the DFW area since 1996.
Dr. Jeyarajah treats a wide range of GI and HPB conditions, including complex ones. He performs minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery to remove pancreatic, liver, rectal, gastric, and esophageal tumors. In addition, Dr. Jeyarajah specializes in treating tumors in the back of the abdomen (retroperitoneal) that require vascular surgery. He works closely with vascular surgeons in these cases.
Dr. Jeyarajah is a pioneer in the use of selective internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy), which shrinks liver tumors so they can be removed. He was also an early adopter of radiation-sparing approaches for rectal cancer, using chemotherapy and surgery in select patients. These techniques prevent or limit the exposure of healthy tissue to radiation.
An expert in treating chronic and acute pancreatitis, Dr. Jeyarajah uses innovative surgical techniques to manage chronic pancreatitis. He also leads a multidisciplinary group that treats acute necrotizing pancreatitis. His work has drawn significant funding for his pancreatic disease research.
Additionally, Dr. Jeyarajah treats endocrine conditions, including parathyroid, thyroid, and adrenal tumors. He has particular expertise in treating patients with pheochromocytoma, an adrenal gland tumor that produces excess hormones.
Dr. Jeyarajah has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and 15 book chapters. He serves in many national leadership roles, including as a director for the American Board of Surgery and president of the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.
In 2024, Dr. Jeyarajah was inducted into the American College of Surgeons’ Academy of Master Surgeon Educators®. He was selected to the Academy as a pioneer and thought leader in surgical education who puts innovative teaching ideas into action.
Dr. Jeyarajah has always found fulfillment in conquering challenges. It’s what drew him to the technical art of surgery and why he excels in providing advanced treatments for patients with the most complex cases. He treats every patient as a family member and insists on delivering the best possible care.
When he isn’t treating patients or conducting research, Dr. Jeyarajah enjoys spending time with his family, listening to classical music, and cooking.
